A very worthwhile cause
The management committee of the Saturn V association has agreed to support the Chase Hospice for life-limited children. The organisation exists to provide help and support to families with children who are not expected to reach their 19th birthday.
10 Saturn V coaches have agreed to perform a sponsored parachute jump in aid of the charity. This will take place on 2nd March 2008 in Maidstone. Parents; if you would also like to take part in a sponsored parachute jump, please telephone the office for an application and sponsor form.
Club members can help also. You could order your Christmas cards from them. Every card purchased will be directly support the charity. If you click on this link: Chase Christmas cards, you will be taken to the Chase brochure.
How else can we help? When you grow out of your club leotard or fleece, don't throw it away. Ask your coach to offer it for sale to someone in the club who is not able to buy a new one. Secondhand club clothing always gets snapped up. The coach can then give the money to the association treasurer (Shirley) who will send it to Chase.
The Godfather comes to Caterham
We were delighted to welcome Eddy Anderson to the Rebound Hall in Caterham.
Eddy is the physiotherapist and headteacher who, in the 1960s, developed the techniques of using the moving surface of a trampoline to provide therapeutic exercise and recreation for severly disabled people. He is known in the world of physiotherapy as the Godfather of Rebound. Eddy is world famous for his model of special needs tutoring and innovative techniques. He is now 70, but shows no signs of slowing down. He still travels the world giving lectures and thinks nothing of driving 300 miles to run a tutoring course. That is precisely what he did on the weekend of 6th and 7th October. He came to the Rebound Hall in Caterham to run an open Rebound Therapy tutoring course for physios and special needs school teachers. Pictured is Eddy with Paul and Shirley whom Eddy kindly described as his "co-tutors".
New management for Oakwood venue
Adam Reynolds has taken over the management of the Oakwood, Horley venue. He is running the club under the name of "Springfit" as a member of the Saturn V association of gymnastic and trampolining clubs.
He has recently started a new trampolining class and a new gymnastics class on Saturdays at 12.00.
Former head gymnastics coach, Stacey Rodd, is taking a year out of coaching to travel around Australia. All the coaches and gymnasts wish her well.
Friday night Gymnastic classes at Oakwood are now being led by Springfit's new Head Coach Tanya Richardson who has been working with Stacey for several years.
Adam said he is delighted to see so many coaches taking on more responsibilities at Horley, and is particularly impressed with the maturity and dedication shown by the Assistant Coaches. Kayleigh Donovan and Georgina Donovan will be putting the 'fun' in Funfit on Saturday mornings for the younger children, while Georgina and Ella Sharman continue to help Friday night gymnasts progress further.
There are additional new roles in Horley for former International gymnast Chris Bower, who will be running Thursdays' Elite Squad class alongside Adam, and also for Hannah May and Zoe Briscoe who have taken up a permanent role coaching Saturday mornings.
New management for Keys special needs classes
Sue Burgess has taken over the management of the Horley Keys special needs and pre-school trampolining classes. She is running under the name of Sue Burgess Trampolining as a member of the Saturn V association of gymnastic and trampolining clubs.
Class Gymnastics Displays
Once every six months, all Saturn V gymnasts put on a class display and parents are invited. The purpose of this is to give parents the opportunity to see how their children are progressing and for children to have the experience of performing in front of an audience. After each class display, the gymnast who, in the opinion of the coaches, has made the most progress since the last display is presented with a medal.
The next gymnastic class displays will be on 10th December for Monday classes, 12th December for Wednesday classes and 14th December for Friday classes. The displays will take place during normal class time.
Members' satisfaction survey
The next survey will go out towards the middle of December. This is your opportunity to rate us and to provide feedback on the classes.
Your comments are always gratefully received; good and bad, as they help us know what you like and what you don't; what we should leave as it is and what we can improve. This helps us to constantly monitor and improve the service we and all your coaches provide.
The coach who scores the highest number of points on the survey receives a bottle of champagne from his or her club
The survey is sponsored by the Good Companions Restaurant who provide a three course meal for 2 with wine to the winner of the prize draw that every survey reply is entered into.
